SPEND AN ENTIRE DAY WITH RICKY TIMS

Ricky Tims, Musician and Contemporary Quiltmaker

Ricky Tims has successfully blended two diverse passions into one very unique and interesting career. His skills as a pianist, composer and producer have been evident by the thousands who have heard his music. His success as a quilter is equally significant.

Ricky has made quilts that have won numerous international awards. He began designing and making quilts in 1991. In 2002 he was named as one of The Thirty Most Distinguished Quilters in the World. In 2009 he was selected (in a three-way tie) by the readers of Quilter's Newsletter Magazine as The Most Influential Person in the Quilting Industry.

Ricky will be delivering three different sessions of one and a half hours each.

Session I

An entertaining talk and concert.

1:00 P.M. – 2:30 P.M.

Session II

Convergence Quilting –

a technique which Ricky has made famous.

3:30 P.M. – 5:00 P.M.

Session III

Primitive Patchwork, Kool Kaleidoscope and Magical Marking

The techniques in Sessions II and III will be accompanied by a very detailed booklet.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS TO THE SALVATION ARMY VICTORIA CITADEL, 4030 DOUGLAS STREET   NOTE:  THERE IS FREE PARKING AT THE CITADEL AS WELL AS STREET PARKING.

 

FROM DOWNTOWN VICTORIA 15 – 20 MINUTES – FOLLOW BLANSHARD ST. WHICH EVENTUALLY TURNS INTO HWY/ BC 17 N. – AKA PAT BAY HIGHWAY.  TAKE EXIT 7 MCKENZIE AVE.  TOWARD NANAIMO, SOOKE.     STAY STRAIGHT PROCEEDING THROUGH THE FIRST TRAFFIC LIGHT.  THE CITADEL IS THE SECOND BUILDING ON YOUR LEFT.

 

FROM PARKSVILLE, NANAIMO, WESTSHORE – EST. 2 HOURS FROM PARKSVILLE

PROCEED SOUTH ON HWY/BC-1 S.    TAKE MCKENZIE AVENUE EXIT FOR APPROX. 2.5 KM TURNING LEFT ON DOUGLAS STREET.  IT IS THE FIRST LEFT JUST PAST A SET OF TRAFFIC LIGHTS AND AN OVERPASS.  THE CITADEL IS THE SECOND BUILDING ON THE LEFT.

FROM SWARTZ BAY FERRY TERMINAL - APPROX. 30 MINUTES

PROCEED SOUTH ON PAT BAY HWY/BC 17 S FOR APPROX. 16 MILES.

TAKE EXIT 7 – MCKENZIE AVENUE RAMP KEEPING TO THE LEFT.  TURN LEFT AT THE LIGHT ONTO MCKENZIE AVENUE.  TURN LEFT AT THE FIRST LIGHT (DOUGLAS STREET).  THE CITADEL IS THE SECOND BUILDING ON THE LEFT.

TRANSIT FROM SWARTZ BAY FERRY TERMINAL – BASED ON CURRENT SCHEDULES

BUS #70 LEAVES TERMINAL AT 8:59 A.M. ARRIVING AT MCKENZIE AVENUE AROUND 9:30 A.M.

WE WILL HAVE ONE OF OUR GUILD MEMBERS MEET THE BUS TO GUIDE YOU TO THE CITADEL.

NOTE: THERE ARE STOP ANNOUNCEMENTS ON THE BUS HOWEVER THEY ARE NOT THAT EASY TO HEAR SO WATCH FOR EXIT 7 MCKENZIE AVENUE – THAT’S WHERE YOU WANT TO GET OFF.

RETURN TRIP #70/71/72 THERE ARE FOUR TIMES BETWEEN 5:30 AND 6 P.M. WHICH ARRIVE AT THE TERMINAL IN TIME FOR THE 7 P.M. FERRY

LUNCH – WE HAVE A GYMNASIUM AT THE CITADEL WHICH WILL BE SET UP TO EAT OUR LUNCHES - NO FOOD OR DRINK IN THE SANCTUARY WHERE THE PRESENTATION WILL TAKE PLACE.

WE WILL HAVE COFFEE, TEA AND GOODIES AVAILABLE BY DONATION.

THERE ARE NO CLOSE BY EATERIES OR CORNER STORES TO PURCHASE LUNCHES SO YOU’LL NEED TO MAKE YOUR OWN ARRANGEMENTS I.E. BROWN BAG IT OR DRIVE.

THE LUNCH BREAK WILL BE 90 MINUTES.

SUNDRY - THERE WILL BE 300 LADIES THERE SO THE ROOM WILL BE FULL SO TRY NOT TO BRING TOO MUCH IN THE WAY OF EXTRAS.  IT MAY ALSO BECOME QUITE WARM WITH ALL THOSE BODIES SO LAYERING CLOTHING IS RECOMMENDED!
