Victoria Community Comfort Quilts Society
Once again, the members of the Victoria Quilters’ Guild, all of whom are members of the Comfort Quilts Society, have been very generous with their time and talents making quilts to be donated.
Bea Sinclair and her Baby Quilt Committee have coordinated the delivery of 240 quilts to the Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit at Victoria General Hospital. To everyone who has donated fabric, quilt tops or completed quilts, those who took home bundles to finish, quilts to bind or quilt and those who sewed on labels at Stitch Day, Thank you. You are all rock-stars. A very special Thank You to the members of the Baby Quilt Committee – Anne Sanderson, Lois Lockley, Sylvia Burghardt, Nan Beall-Fahlman, Valerie Boode, Judy Sale, Kerry Deanne Cloutier, Sue Drysdale and Co-ordinator Bea Sinclair.
A great many of you have also been busy making quilts for a variety of charities including,
Mito Quilts of Hope
Victoria General Hospital Maternity Unit (not to be confused with the Neo-Natal ICU)
The Cridge Centre
I am sure there are more that are not reported to us and I will not attempt to speculate on how many quilts have been donated, but it is for sure in the hundreds. Thank you all for your incredible generosity.
Financial support for the Comfort Quilt Society comes primarily from the proceeds of raffles held at our Biennial Quilt Shows. The 2018 Show raised an amazing $12,000. We allocated $6000 to the Baby Quilt project and the remaining $6000 to the Grant program and were able to raise the amount of the Grant to $75 for the two year period May 2018 to May 2020. At this time there is still some money available so if you have been making quilts for charitable donation and have not applied since May 2019, please contact us.
This year an issue arose that has caused us to re-think the way that we handle the Grant Applications.
We have a fiduciary responsibility to ensure that these funds – raised under the terms of BC Gaming License – are properly dispersed and accounted for.
Moving forward. We are developing a form that will have to be completed and signed by the applicant before it is submitted to the VCCQS. Group applications will require signatures from all group members. This form will be available on the Guild website once it is finalised. Stay tuned.
Our Treasurer, Linda Carter, prepared the Financial Statement which has been distributed, and, in the interests of expediency, is available to answer any questions that you might have at the Break.
I will be stepping down as I have another volunteer commitment that is going to require more of my time, but it has been a pleasure to serve as President of the VCCQS. Valerie Boode has agreed to have her name stand for this position and I know the Society will be in good hands. Thank you again for your incredible generosity. I salute you.
