DESCRIPTION:Garage Sale – Rules and Information  \nThis year’s garage sale is on Wednesday\, April 17 at 9.30 am. Guild members are permitted to sell; guests who have paid their fee to attend our meeting are permitted to buy merchandise. Please read the information below carefully. \nSELLERS  \n\nItems are placed in the sale at your own risk. The committee is not responsible for missing items. We do our best to see that the sale runs smoothly but things do happen.\nAll items must be quilt related. No polyester\, upholstery fabrics or free items will be accepted. The committee reserves the right to reject any items that are not quilt related\, packaged properly\, broken or defective.\nPut each item into a re-sealable\, see-thru plastic bag. Bundles of magazines may be tied with string.\nPrepare an envelope for each item. Put your name in the upper left corner\, print or use an address label. In the centre\, write the name of the item\, yardage if fabric and the amount you are asking for it. For odd shapes draw a diagram with measurements on the envelope. Please indicate if there are any flaws or holes in the piece you want to sell. Do not seal the envelope.\nIf you are asking over $10 add a paper slip into the bag with your name and contact information. Attach securely with a safety pin or tape. This slip will stay in the bag for the buyer.\nPlace the envelope into the appropriate bag and seal the bag. Envelopes may be securely taped to books or other large items (i.e. quilting frames) if these are too large to put into a bag. If you need to fold a large envelope make sure all your info (name/price/yardage) is visible through the plastic bag. Please do not use staples to close the bags. We may not display items that are stapled. You may use scotch tape if necessary.\nBring all items to the Gym entrance before going to the meeting.\nMoney will be disbursed after the sale is over\, you have collected all your unsold items and the envelopes have been sorted.\n\n \n  \nBUYERS  \n\nBring lots of change and small bills as each item must be paid for individually. Consider putting a label on them that mentions Shirley’s name and consider adding them to the Guild’s Quilt Registry. Please drop them off at the gym before finding your seat in the Church.

DESCRIPTION:Lorna will be presenting on Dare to Design. \nLorna is a quilter who came to quilting after a left-brain-dominated life of over 50 years. Almost immediately\, she wanted to make her designs rather than follow someone else’s pattern. However\, with no grounding in art or design\, figuring out what might be aesthetically pleasing to me seemed a daunting task. Over the years\, artists have developed some ground rules for achieving effective design. \nIn this one-hour lecture\, Lorna will share with guild members what she has learned about these ground rules and give examples of how they apply to quilt design. \nAs part of this discussion\, Lorna will look at how fabric texture\, visual and tactile\, can enhance guild members’ designs and finished quilts! DESCRIPTION:Terry Aske will be joining us in person and talking about ‘My Evolution as an Art Quilter’ and presenting a trunk show of her work. \nTerry’s earliest creative memory is from kindergarten\, making a mosaic from seeds and beans. This was the beginning of a life-long quest to find the perfect medium to express myself. Over the years\, she has dabbled in many creative activities such as beading\, drawing\, painting\, knitting\, and sewing. Although Terry enjoys all of these\, none held her interest for long. Then in 1998\, a friend invited Terry to join her at a one-day quilting course. Finally\, Terry had found an artistic medium that fascinated and inspired me! She discovered the work of other art quilters and started designing her own quilts.
